EMSA WILL ONLY ASSIGN THOSE REFEREES WHO ARE REGISTERED YEARLY WITH THE ALBERTA SOCCER ASSOCIATION. (This only applies to District and Youth Referees (old class 3 and 4 or above)
WITHOUT THIS REGISTRATION, YOU DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE ON THE FIELD!
1. EMSA Assistant Referee (Linesman) Courses
This course entitles children with the needed instruction to assistant referee a game. Upon completion of this course, participants will be provided with a jersey, a flag, a whistle and cards. This is a 3 hour course that deals with the rules and regulations of the game. (Must be 11, 12 or 13 years old to register)
2. ASA Youth Referee Entry Level Course
This course is for individuals that want to officiate only U12 Games (format 8 vs 8).
Minimum Age: Participants have to be 12 year old minimum. If you are 13, 14, or older, you still can take this course if you want to focus on the U12 games only. This is only one day course.
3. ASA Youth (Old Class 4) and District (Old Class 3) Referee Course Youth (old Class 4): For ages 14 and 15 year old, but the minimum age is 14 years old March 31st.
If you are 14 years old you can take this 2 days course to get your certification as a youth level (class 4) or Adult level (class 3) referee course.
If you are between the ages of 14 and 16 years old, you are automatically defaulted to take a Youth (class 4) referee. That means that you can officiate full 11 a-side games but only for the age groups of U16 and down.
4. ASA Referee Refresher Course; NOTE: ASA requires you to complete an online exam 3 days prior to your course date.
If you have already taken the ASA Youth (Old Class 4) and District (Old Class 3) Referee Course in a previous year, each year following that you will need to take the Referee Refresher course in order to be able to renew your registration with ASA every year.
